About Barbara Spice
As a child I always remember having an on going sewing or craft project. My grandmother taught me embroidery and my grandfather and uncle were both Saville Row tailors, and I find myself lucky enough to have inherited their genes.
After attending Colchester College in Essex where I studied Fashion, Design and Manufacturing, I obtained both City & Guilds and Diploma qualifications.
My first job was with a local lingerie company as a pattern cutter, occasionally helping out with machining. From there I progressed to a London job, working as a pattern cutter for 'Alexon', where I gained experience in top quality fit and finishing.
After a few years I moved to East Sussex to start my own dressmaking business, and was soon contacted by Jane, the owner of a local bridal shop, who was looking for someone to make up some of her designs, creating a unique bespoke service making outfits for the whole wedding party. We were a good team and worked successfully together for over 20 years creating hundreds of dresses, until Jane retired.
For the following 5 years I continued to make bridal wear, but also gained experience in retail, managing a bridal shop.
However, I have now returned to my passion and work full time once again, creating and sewing from my home based studio, where I am happy making bridal gowns and outfits for the whole wedding party.
